The Adventures Of Robin Hood

The Adventures Of Robin Hood
With King Richard captured and held for ransom during his travels to the Crusades, his brother, Prince John, decides to take England’s throne. After levying taxes and beating a multitude of Saxon subjects, Sir Robin of Locksley and his group of men take it upon themselves to help the poor by stealing from the rich and to protect the thrown from the clutches of John and Sir Guy of Gisbourne. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching 1938’s “The Adventures of Robin Hood”.

∙ At the beginning of the movie, Sir Guy is standing with his back toward the camera as he’s talking to Prince John. His right arm is outstretched, touching the chair next to him. When asked how the Saxons were taking the news, he drops his arm to his side. It cuts to a closer view as he turns around and he’s holding the chair again while turned toward the chair. The scene cuts back to the farther view and he’s facing the opposite direction, not touching the chair as he walks toward John.

∙ Robin flees the banquet in the Great Hall. As he runs down the spiral steps, Sir Guy and the knights open the two barricaded doors. Robin fires one arrow into the left door. As Sir Guy attempts to exit, Robin fires a second arrow. In the farther view, as they attempt to exit the doors again, there are now at least four arrows in the door.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Robin is on the gallows, about to be executed. He looks through the crowd and sees a few of his men, including Friar Tuck. A few moments later, as they’re escaping through the square and down the road, Friar Tuck is already waiting there with horses and a wagon which the soldiers chasing them crash into.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! During the battle at the castle, when Richard thwarts John’s plans to take the throne, Sir Guy and Robin Hood are fighting on the stairs when Sir Guy loses his sword. The sword falls and ends up at the bottom of the staircase. A moment later, Sir Guy falls and lands at the bottom where the sword is several feet behind him. Robin Hood jumps down and is standing in front of him. Sir Guy’s sword is now laying a few feet in front of him, at Robin’s feet. Robin proceeds to kick it to him.

∙ CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! As the battle continues, in the farther view, Sir Guy and Robin arrive at a table with a candle on it. Sir Buy kicks the table over, toward Robin, and the table leg on the right-side breaks. The broken piece lands in the floor. It cuts to a close-up of Robin as he kicks the table toward Sir Guy and the leg is intact.

“The Adventures of Robin Hood” (1938) stars Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Patric Knowles, Eugene Pallette, Alan Hale, Melville cooper, Ian Hunder and Una O’Connor. It runs 102 minutes and is rated PG for adventure violence.
