Finding and Keeping Your Motivation

Finding and Keeping Your Motivation
Starting a new business is time consuming and a huge amount of hard work. You work long hours, you try out ideas that fail, and many times you do it alone. Sometimes it gets overwhelming and it can be hard to remember why you are doing all this work in the first place. It dedication and drive. So how you find and keep that drive to keep going, not only during the launch of new business but during the slow times as well? There are a few ways to find and keep your motivation so that during the hard times you stay focused on your goals.

One of the first things you should do is create a vision board. There are many online sites to create vision boards, or you can do it the old fashioned way and make a physical board with all the things that make you feel motivated. Personally, I think there is something transforming about physically creating a vision board, but do what feels comfortable. Surround your personal and professional space with whatever it is that keeps you focused.

Grab your life plan and read it again and if you do not have one, create one. Remind yourself what it is that you are working toward. Remember what you long term goals are while you are working on the here and now. Bring it out and read through it, change things that need changed, add accomplishment and goals achieved to show yourself how much have have gotten done. Don’t forget to add your new goals and update your vision as well.

Remember to reward yourself. If you are working on a big project, especially one that you really dread doing, reward yourself with small treats with each milestone you reach. Then remember to give yourself a nice reward when you finish the project. You may also remind yourself of any negative consequences if you do not finish your project or meet your deadline. Whatever it takes to get you to the finish line, do that!

Motivation needs to be nurtured, feed it with positivity.. It isn’t easy to stay motivated. If it were then everyone would be reaching all their goals everyday. So when you feel like giving up take a deep breath, walk through these steps and remember why you started this endeavour in the first place. Focus on that why and get back to it.
